Flint Alumni Connection

Another element of “Excellence in Education” is maintaining connections and engagement over time, supporting our schools and our students and continuing to help and inspire students to succeed, knowing that the students before them have succeeded! The new Flint Alumni Connection was launched in March 2019.

The Flint Alumni Connection is available to:

  • Support existing alumni and reunion committees with publicity and networking;
  • Support connections between alumni no matter what school they graduated from; and,
  • Create opportunities for all alumni to come together for any number of reasons.

The Alumni Connection also hopes to engage alumni to help encourage pride in today’s students for their high school and a sense of belonging to a community of people with shared experiences.

A strong community needs strong schools so it is critical to keep our students in Flint, attending high school in Flint, and identifying Flint as their hometown. So many of us have great memories of our high school years, perhaps particularly because of the friendships we made, or special teachers and staff who changed our lives for the better. We want to foster than kind of history for today’s students. So, whether you’re a Colt, Viking, Indian, Phoenix, Wildcat or Knight, we want to connect with you and ask you to help us connect today’s Flint Jaguars with their hometown, keeping our kids in Flint and helping them stay connected for years to come.

Other activities of the Alumni Connection may include taking on responsibility and creating a central repository for archives, artifacts, photos and stories to preserve the legacies of each Flint school, perhaps creating written and oral histories for generations to come.

The schools also need help in other ways such as restoring playgrounds and mentoring kids. The Alumni Connection can serve as a conduit for volunteer opportunities and it may find projects it wishes to adopt.

We know this isn’t for everyone and that not everyone had a good high school experience, but maybe, with your involvement and effort, we can change that going forward for today’s students.

If you have any interest in helping us work on this and build a connection for all Flint graduates that helps us preserve the legacy of Union High School, Flint Technical, Central, Northern, Northwestern and Southwestern, please let us know. If you’d like to help guide this new effort, we’d welcome your advice and participation.
