Excellence in Education

Program Overview

The Excellence in Education Awards Program honors talented individuals throughout the Flint Community Schools who demonstrate the characteristics of highly effective and inspiring educators who successfully engage students in the process of learning. The awards program recognizes individual educators, teachers, staff and administrators who understand and nurture the powerful link between engaged learning and academic achievement.

The Education Foundation introduced its awards program in 2016 to bring attention to this connection between students engaged in learning and hopeful about the future and how those two things affect academic performance and proficiency. The Excellence in Education Awards acknowledges the dedicated educators who make student success their goal, setting the performance bar high and inspiring others. The awards program also engages the business community, alumni and other community partners in supporting this program, sharing their confidence in the FCS’ educators and students.

Excellence in Education monthly awards are given throughout the school year, with surprise announcements and classroom parties. A formal ceremony is held in June each year to present annual awards in five categories. Winners receive financial prizes and other gifts as individuals and monthly winners receive a financial prize for their classroom or building.

Anyone who is a member of the Flint Community Schools family is eligible for an award, including teachers, bus drivers, administrators, paraprofessionals…anyone. Nominations may come from anyone, including colleagues, supervisors, parents and community members. Nominations may be made online via this website or the EFFCS Facebook page, emailed or mailed by post. All winners are selected by the EFFCS Board of Directors based on nominations and recommendations from the Excellence in Education Committee.
